When I close my eyes, I can still hear her, one

hand cupped around her mouth, voice elevated an

octave as she summoned me. "Kitty Cath--run." 

Her voice echoed off the barn, resonated through

orange trees, up to my tree house, in the fields,

or wherever I happened to be playing. It meant,

"Come home. Now."

Disclosing my childhood nickname, chances 

are great that I'm going to be called that name

again--and again. I've decided to brave those

consequences and let the cat out of the bag.

(Pun fully intended in honor of my father who

thought a play on words was "punny" and 

would belly laugh when he heard one until 

tears squeezed out the corners of his eyes.)
